Should i have asked him out?

met my online friend through facebook, talked to him about a week and since we are students, we met up and it was initially awkward for us. later he chatted quite a lot and smile lots even when what i say is not funny. we also remained silent for some times too, and we even went to movies after lunch and ice cream shopping arnd. so was enjoyable. so later he said see me online and i just tell him online that i enjoyed the meetup and hope to see him again. he was saying sure and i asked when is his free time, after we decided on tentative date, he said he will confirm again. so should i have asked him out?
